Are you going to work for a traffic management company?

Which of the following road catagory will you work in?

Explanation of road categories

There are three temporary traffic management road categories to reflect the different levels of complexity and safety risks across the road network.

The Traffic Management Catagory map on the VicRoads website provides a colour-coded representation of the road catagories:

Category
Details
Map Colour
Category 1
Most urban and lower volume rural roads with a posted speed limit of ≤ 60 km/h. Characteristics range from roads with or without a centreline, sealed and unsealed, with a single lane (one lane in each direction), including instances where there is an overtaking lane available for an otherwise single lane road.
Orange
Category 2
High-volume roads, excluding freeways. Characteristics include signalised intersections, multi-lane or divided roads, and major urban roads. These are mostly arterial roads and include complex environments, such as two-lane roundabouts.
Blue
Category 3
High volume, high speed multi-lane freeways with a divided carriageway, including on-ramps and off-ramps.

Traffic Management Training Frequently Asked Questions

Does my traffic management ticket have an expiry date?

All traffic management tickets come with a 3-year expiry from the issuing date of your statement of attainment. You must renew your traffic control ticket by attending a refresher course before the expiry date.

Do I receive a physical card after course completion?

Origin Institute issues a digital traffic management ticket, which can be added to your Apple Wallet and is much better and easier than a traditional plastic card. Android phone users may need a third-party app (example app) to store the digital traffic management ticket. The digital traffic management ticket comes with a QR code, which will allow your employer or supervisor to see the full version of the statement of attainment. Origin Institute introduced the digital traffic management ticket on 18 Sep 2023. Any students who complete traffic management ticket training with us on or after 18 Sep 2023 will receive this digital traffic management ticket at around 6 am after training completion.

How long does it take to get my traffic management ticket?

If you complete the traffic management ticket training with Origin Institute, we will issue you the nationally accredited Statement of Attainment (SoA) on the same day of course completion. Your SoA of traffic control training is the legitimate traffic management ticket.

If you complete the training with us after 18 Sep 2023, you will also receive a digital traffic management ticket at around 6 am after the training completion, which can be added to your Apple Wallet.

What is the difference between short-term workers and professional traffic workers?

Short-term workers are those who don’t work in the traffic management industry but are required to ensure safety on the road network.

Professional traffic management workers work for accredited traffic control companies and are often in live traffic environments. This article provides more details on the difference between short-term workers and professional traffic management workers.

What is the difference between traffic control and traffic management courses?

The traffic control course includes the skills and knowledge required to control vehicle and pedestrian traffic using stop-slow bats, hand signals and approved communication devices.

The traffic management course, also known as the traffic management implementer course, includes the skills and knowledge required to establish, monitor, and close down traffic management plans and traffic guidance schemes.

What if I lost my traffic management ticket?

If you completed traffic management ticket training with us, simply email support@origin.edu.au, and we will send you a new copy of the digital Statement of Attainment.

If you complete the training with us after 18 Sep 2023, you will also receive a digital traffic management ticket, which can be added to your Apple Wallet.

If you completed traffic management ticket training with another training provider, you should contact that provider for a solution.

Do I need a White Card before enrolling in the traffic management course?

For short-term workers, it depends on your job. If you use a traffic management ticket on a construction site, you also need a White Card. If you want to book a White Card course, click here.

If you are a professional traffic worker, you must get a white card before enrolling in any new traffic control (TC) and traffic management implementer (TMI) skill sets. The About section provides more details of entry requirements.

What should I do if my traffic management ticket is expired?

You must renew your traffic management ticket before the expiry date by completing a refresher course.

What do I need to bring with me to the traffic management class?

Please bring your own pen and wear closed-in shoes. Please note that during winter months, the temperatures within our warehouse can be low. Please come with sufficient warm clothing on cold weather days. A rain jacket is also required on a rainy day.

Is there anything I need to complete before my traffic management class?

Before your class, you must complete all enrollment tasks using your online learning platform (OLP) account. Enrolment tasks include enrolment form, ID upload and learning competency assessment. After completing your enrolment, please preview all reading materials that can be downloaded from your OLP account.

What do I learn from the traffic management course?
